Bioprocessing

MerLion Research has many years’ experience in the isolation, identification, fermentation and extraction of secondary metabolite producer microorganisms. Facilities include industrial autoclaves, shaking incubator capacity for over 100 L, large-scale extraction equipment plus 5 and 30 L bioreactors, suitable for fermentation of terrestrial and marine microbes.

Our scientists are skilled in the optimisation of fermentation protocols and the use of strain mutagenesis to improve yields of secondary metabolites. In this they are aided by the use of UPLC chemical fingerprinting to rapidly quantitate yields in multiple test samples and hence drive process optimisation.
