Service Details: This service offers basic analysis of samples to identify major components in crude or semi-purified natural product mixtures and to assess suitability for further structure elucidation. Component masses are compared to our in-house database of natural product compounds to identify known compounds within the sample. This service is often performed together with Sample Characterisation by 1H qNMR.
Analysis is performed using an Agilent HPLC and Bruker Esquire Ion Trap MS/MS system. Fractions can be collected for bioactivity analysis to aid in “dereplication” of samples for known bioactive compounds. High Resolution MS/MS can also be undertaken on fractions using a Bruker MicroTof (Q-TOF) to obtain accurate masses and determine molecular formulae.
Note: “Dereplication” is the process whereby natural product extracts are rapidly analysed in order to determine the presence of known natural product which are likely to account for the observed activity of the extract.
